Weekend in Kyiv

Kyiv – the capital of Ukraine. This city is also considered as the mother city for all Eastern Slavic peoples. Kyiv has much to offer its guests!
We welcome you to spend 3/2 or 2/1 days/nights full of interesting excursions and fascinating impressions. The itinerary proposes a panoramic tour of Kyiv with the visit to the city’s main highlights, including the golden-domed Kyiv Pechersk Lavra Monastery, the modern centre and the remains of the old city which all are situated on the hilly west bank of the Dnipro, third largest river in Europe.
During the tour you will be acquainted with Kyiv, its architectural monuments, the memorials of the past as well as with a new city.

Kyiv
3 Days / 2 Nights

1st day (Friday)
Arrival in Kyiv. Accommodation at a 3* or 4* hotel / apartment / hostel.

Places of visit:

Khreschatyk Street – the well-known main city street. Along the street are situated a lot of trade and entertainment establishments.  In the centre of the street there are the main country square – Maidan Nezalezhnosti (the Independence Square) with the monument to independent Ukraine (62m high called "Glory to Ukraine"), the building of the Trade-Union Federation of Ukraine, the General Post Office, the concert hall of the Chaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine.
Water museum was opened in 2003 in the reconstructed building of old water-tower which is elder than 130 years and was erected in 1872-1876 years. Museum exposition is located underground – large aquariums, lift to the dungeon, working model of artesian well, gigantic w.c. pan, sewage collector and fairy grotto with waterfall and real thunder-storm, rain and lightning’s.

Excursion program around the Kyiv Pecherska Lavra – a Ukrainian orthodox monastery, which was founded in 1051 by the byzantine monk St. Antoniy Pecherskiy. It has become the largest religious establishment in the country. It bears the name of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra binding its foundation in the catacombs and since the 12th century it bears the name of Lavra. Spread across wooded slopes above the Dnipro, it is a unique array of gold-domed churches, underground labyrinths lined with holy relics.
The Pechersk Monastery played an important role in the unification of the Eastern Slavonic Lands. It was their spiritual, social, cultural and educational centre. The Pechersk Monastery was held in respect not only in Kievan Rus, but also in Poland, Armenia, Byzantine, Bulgaria and other countries.

2nd day (Saturday)

Places of visit:

National architecture and life museum «Pyrogovo» (Open-air museum)
Pyrogovo is the museum under the open air. The exposition displays the architecture of Ukrainian villages (peasant houses, windmills, and wooden churches), items of peasant life (furniture, crockery, clothes, and musical instruments). It is a nice place for spending free time. After walking along the museum, you can ride a horse, walk through a park, taste a traditional Ukrainian cuisine in a local restaurant, listen to a folk music or just relax on a silky grass.

National Museum of World War II
The major exposition is located in 14 rooms covering the area of 5,000 square meters and includes more than 12,000 exhibits. The documents of military commanders and rank-and-file participants of the war; valuable collections of orders, medals and arms; unique things and documents of Nazi-occupation and liberation period attract the attention of numerous visitors of the Memorial. On the territory of the museum there is a large exposition of military equipment of Soviet epoch.

3rd day (Sunday)

Places of visit:

St. Sophia Cathedral – the world-famous monument of history, architecture and monumental painting. Built in the fist half of the XI c., during the reign of Prince Yaroslav the Wise. Both common people and the mighty of this world made pilgrimages to St. Sophia. (Virtual tour)



St. Michael Golden Domed Cathedral was built in 1108 by prince Svyatopolk – Yaroslav’s grandson. It is the model of the Old Rus architecture. Rebuilt in the modern times.





Top of Andriyivskyi Descent & St. Andriy Church
Since the late XXth c., Andriyivskyi Descent has become a venue of mass pilgrimage of Kyivans and numerous tourists. The street is crammed with souvenir shops, art galleries, museums, theatres, cafes and restaurants, there are a lot of street vendors who offer paintings and souvenirs to every liking.





St. Andrii’s Church soars grandly on the slope of Starokyyivska Hill. The terrace of the church forms a splendid look-out point with an inimitable view of the Podol district, the sunny Dniper’s vistas and the city’s new housing projects across the river.

Ethnological centre Cossack village Mamayeva Sloboda was open in Kyiv, Ukraine on July 2009. Mamayeva Sloboda is a bright embodiment of glorious Cossack tradition, which can be spotted in architecture and also in the landscape. A characteristic feature of the Cossack village became revival of the forgotten Ukrainian traditions. A separate cultural program will be prepared in there for each national and religious holiday.
